About Mr. Joshua
Joshua Michael Smith had a late start on reading and writing. He skipped kindergarten and went straight into the first grade. By the time he started second grade he didn’t know how to read or write. Books became a challenge and seeing other kids read, what seemed, effortlessly, made him both envious and frustrated. He quickly learned how to make up his own stories to the colorful pages of the Bernstain Bears. His teacher didn’t think this was an acceptable solution and sent him to a before-school reading class where they bribed him with Chips Ahoy! A few weeks later and books were no longer being thrown to walls from kitchen tables.
